Happy Birthday USA

Dear America,

Happy Birthday!  You are looking fabulous at age 238!  Only a true beauty can pull off dusty red canyons, concrete skylines, sad facades, wide open prairies, and more than a few blows from mother nature. But it’s not all about looks.  You endeavor to handle most bumps in the road – subtly bouncing back from recession, aiding the needy or simply acknowledging that big mistake.  Your most marked characteristic however, is your spirit…that thing you just can’t quite put your finger on, that which gives us all a place at the table even if we show up with cut-offs and no hostess gift.  Sure, you have flaws, there are many, but today is your birthday and this is my open card to you.  I love you a ton, I don’t tell you often enough, and it is high time I shared my gratitude.
